The idea with Dolby Atmos is that you plug ANY headphones into a compatible device, and from there, the Atmos codec goes to work to filter the sound mix to the Atmos spec—IF a game/app is compatible. If you plug in fancypants headphones with their own "Atmos" filter enabled, then turn Atmos on separately from your primary device, the result is a fake Atmos filter applied on top of the real Atmos codec.
